MELALEUCA ALTERNIFOLIA LEAF OIL
The tea tree:
The Australian tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) originally comes from the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland. The tea tree grows as an evergreen tree or shrub and can grow up to 10 meters high and is very fast-growing. The trunk has a paper-like white bark. The leaves are between 1.0 and 3.5 cm long, placed opposite, lanceolate and straight to sickle-shaped. The white, many-flowered, 3.0 to 5.0 cm long inflorescences appear in spring. The Australian tea tree developes small, cylindrical seed capsules.
How organic tea tree oil is produced:
The organic tea tree oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the twigs and leaves of the tea tree. Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic components of the plant. Due to the non-miscibility of the organic components of the essential oil and the water, a spontaneous phase separation takes place during cooling, so that the essential oil can be separated. The yield is about 6.0%.
The organic tea tree oil is a mobile, yellowish liquid. It has a fresh herbal-and eucalyptus-like odor.
