CEDRUS ATLANTICA WOOD OIL
Original home of the Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) are the North African Atlas Mountains and the Rif Mountains up to 1800 m in height. The Atlas cedar is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 40 meters high; the trunk can reach a diameter of two meters. The loosely conical crown in youth becomes increasingly irregular with age. The bark is smooth and gray on young trees, in older specimens it is dark gray to black and cracked. The bluish-green needles are between 1.5 and 2.5 cm long and 1 to 1.2 mm wide. Approximately 10 to 30 needles are bunched together. The cones reach a length of 5 to 7 cm and a diameter of up to 4 cm.
How organic cedarwood oil is produced:
Organic cedarwood oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the wood of the Atlas cedar. Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic compounds of the wood. Due to the non-miscibility of the organic components of the essential oil and the water, a spontaneous phase separation takes place during cooling, so that the essential oil can be separated.
Organic cedarwood oil is a mobile, mostly yellowish to orange coloured liquid. The scent is described as characteristic, spicy, warm and woody.
Characteristic ingredients are cedrole, longifolene and the odour-determining atlantone.
