JUNIPERUS COMMUNIS FRUIT OIL
The common juniper grows as an evergreen shrub or tree and can grow up to 10 m high. It grows wild from the plains to heights of 1.600 m. The common juniper grows upright, loosely conical to columnar and often multi-stemmed. The bluish-green, pricking needles are approximately 1.5 cm in length and stand threesome in whorls. On the top they have a green-white ribbon and are lined with a narrow green border strip. The common juniper is dioecious. The bloom time extends over the months of April and May. The female juniper develop black, blue, frosted berry cones that ripen until the second year after fertilization.
How organic juniper berry oil is produced:
The organic juniper berry oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the dried berries of juniper (Juniperus communis). Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic compounds of the berries. Due to the non-miscibility of the organic components of the essential oil and the water, a spontaneous phase separation takes place during the cooling, so that the essential oil can be separated. The yield is between 0.8 and 2.0%.
The organic juniper berry oil is an easily mobile, colourless to yellowish-green coloured liquid. It has a distinctive, green-herbaceous, leathery and gin-like flavour.
