Trivia
Black cumin has been growing in Egypt since the time of the pharaohs, and the best oilseeds are still produced today. Since then it has been used as a condiment and remedy.
The name black cumin is a bit of a misnomer. In fact, from a botanical point of view, it is not related to caraway or cumin, but belongs to the buttercup family.
The black cumin plant is about 30 cm high and flowers from June to September white to violet-blue. During the ripening period, spherical capsules are formed that contain the small and, as the name suggests, black seeds.
The black cumin seeds contain about 35% oil and about 2% essential oils, from which the intense, peppery taste is created. We obtain the aromatic organic black cumin oil through gentle cold pressing.
