Organic Grapefruit oil
Grapefruit essential oil is a mobile yellow liquid. It has a fruity-fresh scent, with characteristic citrus notes. The main component of the essential grapefruit oil is limonene, which can have a proportion of almost 100%. Characteristically, however, myrcene is also included. The typical smell of the oil is caused by other trace components, which also contain sulphur.
The essential grapefruit oil is obtained by cold pressing the outer skin of the fruit of the grapefruit tree (Citrus paradisi). In the outer, spongy layers of the shell are small areas that store the essential oil. These oil chambers can easily be mechanically opened and emptied. The yield is between 0.05 and 0.6%.
Use in natural medicine/ phytotherapy/ pharmacy
Essential grapefruit oil is said to have a positive effect on greasy skin and skin prone to acne (acne vulgaris). When applied directly to the acne pustules, it has a local disinfecting effect so that the inflammation can subside more quickly. Furthermore, the essential grapefruit oil promotes blood circulation in the skin and can contribute to the increased breakdown of fatty tissue (lipolytic effect). These properties are used primarily in the care of skin prone to cellulite and in the case of obesity. Essential grapefruit oil, together with fennel oil, pepper oil and cardamom oil, is said to increase fat burning in the human organism. By stimulating the thalamus in the limbic system, the release of endogenous encephalins (pain-relieving, opiate-like peptide hormones) is promoted. This creates a state of well-being and a certain basic euphoria. Especially with a reduction diet, this can help to persevere.
Use in the cosmetics industry
Grapefruit essential oil is used in cosmetics to create fresh top notes. It is also popular for flavoring hygiene items (soaps, room fragrance fresheners). The fragrance combines very well with other citrus oils, verbena, jasmine, cardamom, lavender, clary sage, palmarosa, rose, geranium, rosemary and cypress.
Use in the food industry
The essential grapefruit oil can be used in the food industry as a substitute for fresh grapefruit juice to flavor confectionery, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and baked goods. For example, lemonades, liqueurs, cakes, puddings, biscuits, sauces or dressings are conceivable.
