Organic Castor Oil Ph. Eur. (virgin)
Organic Castor Oil Ph. Eur. (virgin) and Its Use in the Pharmaceutical Industry
The organic castor oil ph. eur. (virgin) has proven itself in the pharmaceutical industry. For internal use, it is considered a natural laxative. Applied externally, castor oil forms a mechanical protective film on contact with water, which is supposed to improve the treatment of scar tissue, cracks, and fissures.
Organic castor oil ph. eur. (virgin) is particularly suitable as a solvent or carrier oil for lipophilic medicinal substances, as it penetrates the skin quickly. In addition, organic castor oil ph. eur. (virgin) is often used for oily solutions that cannot be taken orally. This particularly applies to the administration of sex hormones.
In oily eye drops, the organic castor oil ph. eur. (virgin) lets the active ingredients stay longer in the eye than pure water-based eye drops (the so-called “depot effect”), because they cannot drain off as quickly.
Trivia
The castor originally comes from the tropics in India and Africa.
The trunk of the so-called wonder tree is frosted blue, heavily branched with greenish to reddish bark. The leaves resemble a splayed hand and are always the same color as the trunk. The prickly fruits are bright red and reach a diameter of up to 2.5 cm. This contains three seeds each, roughly the shape and size of a bean.
The organic castor oil is obtained from the peeled seeds by mechanical cold pressing.
